Hair Care

Scripture: 2nd Samuel 13-19

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn when people don’t follow God’s commands, their lives often become full of bad choices and consequences.
  • Students will learn pride can cause people to make poor choices.
  • Students will learn pride often leads to disaster.
  • Students will learn how to keep their hair healthy.

Guiding Question: Why does God want us to stay away from pride?

Materials: Various hair care products: comb, brush, travel size hair products, etc

Procedure: Review the story of Absalom from the scripture above. Ask students why pride could lead to negative consequences and how they should act instead of being prideful. Remind students that all their success comes from God and that pride takes away from God’s glory. Knowing that success comes from God and living a humble life leads us to make better choices and serve as a godly example to those around us.

Introduce the activity. Remind students about Absalom’s hair and ask how they think it is possible to keep so much hair healthy. Explain that there are several factors in keeping hair healthy: diet, cleaning, styling (in ways that don’t damage it, etc.). Bring in different hair care products and teach students how to clean a brush, comb, etc.

Additional Questions: How can students take care of their hair at home?

Supplemental Activity: Have students create a step-by-step guide to keeping their healthy that they can put up in their bathroom at home.
