Scripture: Acts 10:1-46
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn about the conversion of Cornelius.
- Students will develop an understanding of what God wants us to do as Christians and fulfill His plan for us.
- Students will learn how to listen for God’s direction in their lives.
- Students will learn how God wants us to share His word with others we may not always get along with.
Guiding Question: How can the students learn why listening to God is important?
Materials: Large sheet, various “animals”, a “rooftop”, decor for the interior of a 1st century home, 1st century clothing
Procedure: Review the story of Saul’s conversion from Acts 10:1-48. Have the students perform the script based on Acts 10:1-48. Discuss with the students how exciting it was that God made it clear to Peter that He wanted everyone to hear the Gospel and become Christians. Depending on the age, discuss why people today may be reluctant to hearing about Jesus. Explain the importance of sharing Jesus with all people and how to share with those that you may not get along with.
Tell the students that some tribes around the world do not have the Bible written in their language and need missionaries to come share God with them in the language they understand. Have the students try to read a section of the Bible in another language. Discuss how it was difficult to understand and how they imagine those who do not have the Bible in their language may feel.
Additional Questions:
- How can students relate to others who they may be different than them?
Supplemental Activity: Have students pair up and find things they have in common and do not have in common. Have the partner pair work together to figure out how they could share Jesus with each other through what they have in common or what is different about them.
