Travel Time!

Scripture: Matthew 2:13-23 and Luke 2:21-40

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn many people like Simeon and Anna wait for a very long time for someone to tell them Jesus is here.
  • Students will learn it is important to obey God when He tells us to do something because often our obedience can help us avoid earthly consequences.
  • Students will learn our first priority is to worship God and dedicate everything to Him.
  • Students will learn about specific words used when traveling.

Guiding Question: Why should we stay obedient to God?

Materials: Maps, travel brochures, pencils, paper

Procedure: Review the scripture above with the students. Remind students of the Temple Visit and tell students that sometimes in life, God will ask us to go to certain places and we may not understand why. If we really feel God is calling us to go somewhere, we need to be obedient and go even when we do not know why we were going there. God has a bigger plan in mind than what we can see so it is important to trust Him and obey Him in all that we do.

Introduce the activity. Bring in maps and tourist brochures. Talk with the students about what maps and travel brochures are used for when planning a trip or vacation. Have the students plan a vacation while learning and practicing travel words. Review and have students practice conjugating present tense traveling verbs.

Additional Questions: How can students apply their knowledge about travel?

Supplemental Activity: Have the students work in pairs or in groups and create an itinerary for a trip using specific travel words.
