Scripture: 1 Samuel 1-3

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn the story of Hannah praying for a son.
  • Students will learn the importance of praising God.
  • Students will learn vocabulary used when purchasing items for babies.

Guiding Questions: How can students learn vocabulary used when purchasing items for babies?

Materials: Items or photos of items used by babies, devices with internet access or catalogs

Procedure: Review the story of Hannah praying for Samuel. Review how God granted Hannah with a son and how Hannah went about praising God for His work. Talk with the students about the importance of praying to God for His good work and why it is important for us to praise God when he answers prayers.

Teach the students the vocabulary words for things people buy for babies (bottle, diapers, formula, crib, etc.). Have them tell a partner what they want and the partner has to find the item in an online store or catalog.

Additional Questions:  How can students apply knowledge of items babies need?

Supplemental Activity: Have the students create a drawing of a webpage with different items babies need. Have the students include a drawing of each item, the name of the item, and price for the item.
