Introducing Joshua as Leader

Scripture: Deuteronomy 31

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn Moses told the people God had chosen Joshua to be their leader after he died.
  • Students will learn Joshua had been preparing for the role of leader for more than forty years.
  • Students will learn sometimes God may take years to prepare us for something He wants us to do.

Interesting Facts:

  • Joshua is mentioned several times in earlier stories – often as an aide to Moses. He help up Moses’ arms during the battle, he went to Mt. Sinai with Moses and he was one of the spies who first surveyed the Promised Land.
  • After the death of Moses, Joshua and Caleb were the only remaining adults who were adults when the Israelites left Egypt.
