Scripture: Joshua 5-6
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn that God expects us to obey Him, even if we don’t understand why he is asking us to do something.
- Students will learn God can make the impossible happen if it is in His will.
- Students will learn God keeps His promises.
- Students will learn why it is important to obey God.
Guiding Question: How can students learn why God wants them to obey Him?
Materials: Props, costumes
Procedure: Review the story of Jericho focusing on how the Israelites had to trust God even though they did not understand why they had to march around the wall. This happens with us today. God’s Word might instruct you to do things that you do not want to do and you do not understand why you have to do it, but we must trust that God knows best. In the end it will be good.
Introduce the activity. Have the students act out the story. Discuss imagining they were told to walk around their city in the same way, what would they think? Why do they think the people obeyed God? Would it be hard for them to obey God?
Additional Questions: How can students be prepared to trust and obey God?
Supplemental Activity: As a class, have the students come up with times in their life when it may be hard to trust and obey God. List ideas on board or chart paper. Then have the students work in partners or groups to come up with a plan for what to do in one of those situations to make it easier to trust and obey God (pray, talk with a mentor, read the Bible, memorize scripture, etc)
