Diaper Kits

Scripture: Matthew 1 and Luke 1:25-56

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn God had a plan for the Messiah to come to earth from the very beginning.
  • Students will learn Jesus fulfilled many prophecies in the Old Testament including his genealogy.
  • Students will learn God wants us to be excited Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins.
  • Students will make diaper kits for families in need.

Guiding Question: How can we help people who can’t afford to buy diapers?

Materials: Will vary based on needs for the diaper kit

Procedure: Review the story of Jesus coming from the scriptures above. Explain that God had a plan for Jesus to come and save us from our sins and that prophecies were made by people called prophets well before Jesus came to earth. These prophets talked about a savior coming to save us from our sins and foretold much of Jesus’ life. Jesus fulfilled many prophecies about His life and His genealogy (explain genealogy depending on age/background experience of students).

Introduce the service project. Explain that families who are dealing with poverty my also have little babies that they are trying to take care of. It can be difficult for them to purchase the materials needed to properly take care of their baby. Have the students make diaper kits that include infant diapers, disposable wipes, changing pad, etc. Prior to the activity, contact a local facility or shelter that would take these kits and make sure the kits match what their needs are.

Additional Questions: How can students provide clothing to babies in need?

Supplemental Activity: Have students put on a fundraiser to raise money to purchase blank white onesies. Have students then decorate the onesies and donate to shelters or other local facilities in need of them.
