How Much Will It Take?

Scripture: John 2:1-12

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn even Jesus was respectful to his mother.
  • Students will learn Jesus performed miracles to point people to God.
  • Students will learn God has plans for us and His timing is perfect.
  • Students will create a conversion chart converting from one volume to another.

Guiding Question: Why does God perform miracles and work His plans in our lives on His timing?

Materials: Measuring instruments (cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, etc)

Procedure: Review the story of Jesus turning water into wine. Explain that Jesus made miracles happen in order to show that He truly was who He proclaimed to be. Today, He performs miracles and works in our lives to show us that we can trust Him and have faith in His promises. His timing in his plans for us is always perfect because He alone knows what is best for our lives.

Explain to the students that when people cook and/or serve food, they often have to convert measurements. Show students various types of measuring instruments and explain how/when they are used. Have the students work with various volume measuring instruments/containers and have them develop a chart for converting one volume into another.

Example: How many tablespoons does it take to make one cup? How many cups to make one pint?

Additional Questions: How can measurements be converted when cooking?

Supplemental Activity: Give students several recipes and have them practice converting between what is given in the recipe to other types of measurement (example: teaspoons to tablespoons).
