Water Safety

Scripture: Acts 27:1-28:31

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn living in a Fallen World means bad things can still happen to Christians.
  • Students will learn God is with us when bad things happen.
  • Students will learn God often makes good things come out of the bad things that happen to us.
  • Students will learn about water safety rules.

Guiding Question: How can we receive help from God when we are struggling?

Materials: Internet access, poster paper, pencils, drawing utensils

Procedure: Discuss with the students how bad things can happen in life just like what happened to Paul. Things can happen that seem bad or discouraging but this does not mean God does not love us or does not want us to keep sharing His Word. Sometimes, Satan tries to trick us into not teaching about God by discouraging us. He wants us to think about our problems rather than thinking about how to serve God no matter what. Explain that God wants us to deal with problems by praying to Him for help. We can face our problems knowing God is always with is.

Introduce the activity. Remind students that during the shipwreck, Paul had to remain safe in the water. What things do we have to remember today when we go to the pool, lake, or ocean to stay safe? Have students share out their ideas and rules. Then have students research and create water safety rules posters.

Additional Questions: How can students share knowledge about water safety?

Supplemental Activity: Have students teach a class to younger students about water safety and provide water safety rules brochures.
