A Proper Hello

Scripture: I and II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I Timothy and II Timothy, Titus, Philemon

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will review Paul’s letters to Timothy.
  • Students will learn Paul mentored the younger Timothy, probably from the time he was a teen.
  • Students will learn how to greet others properly.

Guiding Question: How can students learn how to use a proper greeting?

Materials: None needed

Procedure: Tell the students about the various letters wrote to churches throughout teh known world. Explain that Paul wrote these letters not just for those people, but to also help us learn what God wants us to know.

Introduce the activity. With the students, look at the various greetings Paul sent in his letters. These are often both at the beginning and the end of the letter. Teach the students different ways of greeting each other. For the activity, Find a large space and have the students walk up to each other and greet each other. Then see which team can come up with the most unique greetings.

Additional Questions: How can students create meaningful greetings?
Supplemental Activity: Give students templates of simple greeting such as “Hello” and work together to add detail to make the greeting more unique and meaningful.
