Aiding Others

Scripture: Luke 10:25-37

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn God expects us to help those we see who need help.
  • Students will learn everyone is worthy of our help, whether we like them or not.
  • Students will learn God expects us to have a generous and serving heart.
  • Students will learn and practice basic first aid skills.

Guiding Question: How can we use first aid to help others stay safe and healthy?

Materials: First aid kit (with multiples of items for students to practice with), lists of first aid skills, simple slings

Procedure: Review the story of the Good Samaritan with the students. Remind them that God expects us to help others who are in need. Have the students come up with how they could help others in a variety of situations. Discuss with the students how they could show God to others in those situations.

Explain to the students that it is important to know basic first aid skills in case you come across someone who is injured or you are with someone who injures themselves. Show students items that come in a first aid kit and explain what they are used for. Teach students basic first aid skills and “practice them” – cleaning wounds, applying pressure to bleeding wounds/elevate, simple slings, etc.

Additional Questions: How can we serve others and help them learn about caring for themselves?
Supplemental Activity: Have the students teach younger students at church or in the community about first aid skills and help them practice. Have the students hold a children’s devotional with the children they are serving.
