I recently attended a workshop where someone was explaining the program, Capturing Kids Hearts, which is used in many public schools around the country. While I haven’t done a deep dive into the efficacy of the entire program, there was one point mentioned that I believe could be transformative for ministries.
The program promotes asking students three questions to help improve behavior in the classroom. Personally, I believe used with the right delivery and in the right circumstances, the questions could transform many areas of your ministry.
The questions are… “What are you currently doing?”, “What should you be doing?” and “What are you going to do about it?” (Apologies if the wording is off a bit.) Think about it for a minute. What if you asked yourself these questions about any aspect of your ministry and your plans to improve its effectiveness? What if your volunteers were trained to ask themselves these questions about prepping for classes and ministering to their students? What if you asked your Bible students these questions – not just about their classroom behaviors, but about their Christian lives in general?
These questions ask us to be honest with ourselves about what we are doing. They force us to reflect upon what God might really want us to be doing instead. They encourage us to make needed changes and adjustments now instead of at some fuzzy unnamed time in the future. Try it for a while and see what happens. You may just be surprised how much easier it is to see God working in your ministry
