Noah

Scripture: Genesis 5-9

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn we are all descendants of Seth
  • Students will learn about Enoch as one of the two people the Bible says did not die, but went straight to be with God. They will also learn about Methuselah, the longest recorded life in the Bible
  • Students will learn sin on earth had gotten so bad, God decided to destroy everyone except Noah and his family
  • Students will learn Noah and his three sons spent about 50-75 years building the Ark to the specifications given to them by God
  • Students will learn Noah took one pair of every kind of unclean animal and seven pairs of every kind of clean animal onto the Ark
  • Students will learn that although it rained for forty days and forty nights,Noah and his family were actually on the Ark for about 370 days
  • Students will learn that after the Ark rested on Mt. Ararat, Noah sacrificed to God
  • Students will learn God promised Noah He would never destroy the entire world by flood again. God gave the rainbow as a sign of His promise

Interesting Facts:

  • The size of the Ark was 450 feet (137m) long, 75 feet (23m) wide and 45 feet (14m) high
  • Over 16,000 animals could have easily fit onto the Ark
  • “Kind” of animal means Noah only needed to have one pair of dogs (for example), not one pair of every breed of dog
  • Noah probably took juvenile animals on the Ark. They would have taken up less room and had more breeding years after the Flood
  • Even dinosaurs could have fit on the Ark. The average dinosaur was the size of a sheep and even large dinosaurs were relatively small when young
  • Massive climate and geographic changes occurred as a result of the Flood. These changes could account for shorter life spans, ice ages and some scientists believe continental splits
  • Narratives of a worldwide flood exist in numerous ancient cultures all over the world
  • Large flood deposits, sea animal fossils found on mountain tops and large scale fossil finds point to a worldwide, cataclysmic flood
