Banquet Parables

Scripture: Luke 14:7-35

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn God expects us to be humble.
  • Students will learn God expects us to be unselfish when we serve others.
  • Students will learn Being a disciple of Jesus may mean sacrificing many things.

Interesting Facts:

  • In New Testament times, people received two invitations to a banquet. One, similar to our “save the date” cards and then the second when the banquet was ready to begin.
  • Many Jews had begun eating the way Romans ate – reclined on cushions on the floor with their head close to the table and their bodies at an angle outwards. The person net to them would have their head near the chest of the person to their left. The “greatest” person would not have their head near anyone (head of the table!).
