Solomon’s Problems

Scripture: I Kings 11

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn that although God gave Solomon great wisdom he sometimes did not use that wisdom and made poor choices.
  • Students will learn Solomon disobeyed God and took wives from other countries who introduced their idols to Israel.
  • Students will learn that just like Solomon, our poor choices can sometimes hurt people other than ourselves and sometimes the consequences can hurt people many years later.

Interesting Facts:

  • Solomon broke the commands against having many wives and against marrying wives from countries that worshipped idols.
  • Solomon’s many wives and lavish lifestyle continued to create problems many years after his death. His wives introduced idolatry to Israel and his son’s continuation and hardening of his father’s high taxes and labor demands were some of the causes of the eventual split in the kingdom.
