Let’s Build a Tent

Scripture: Acts 18:1-28

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn sometimes people have only learned part of what God wants them to do.
  • Students will learn God wants us to help people learn everything God wants them to do and encourage them to do it.
  • Students will learn that sometimes if people refuse to hear what God wants them to hear our time may be better spent teaching others who will listen rather than spending all of our time with people who refuse to listen.
  • Students will practice measurement by measuring various pieces of cloth.

Guiding Question: Why does God want us to share Him with all people, even if they already know about God?

Materials: Pieces of cloth that are various sizes, rulers, pencils, paper

Procedure: Review the story of Aquila and Priscilla. Remind students that Aquila and Priscilla were dedicated in spending time serving God through sharing about Him with other people. There people sometimes even knew about God but only part of the story or knew part of what God wanted them to do. Ask the students to share why they feel it is important to share God with people who already know about Him. After students share, explain that some people may have heard about God, know who He is, and are trying to live a Christian lifestyle but may not know all God wants for them or may have been taught something incorrect about Christianity. Remind students they may encounter people who refuse to listen to the Word of God and for students to pray about how they can serve this person or if there time would be better spent ministering to someone open to hearing about God.

Introduce the activity. Tell students they are going to practice measuring by measuring various types of fabric. The students can model in inches and centimeters. Remind students which side of a ruler has inches and which side of a ruler has centimeters. Model measuring one or two pieces of fabric and then allow students to practice. Have the students measure at least ten pieces of fabric in inches and centimeters.

Additional Questions: How can students measure various objects?
Supplemental Activity: Have the students make different creations with their fabric – house, blanket, shape. Have them measure the items they make in inches and centimeters.
