Humbleness and Appreciation

Scripture: Luke 15

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn that God is with them, even when we do not understand his plan.
  • Students will learn that God is behind all victories.
  • Students will make thank you notes for those they are thankful for.

Guiding Question: How can students show thankfulness to others?

Materials: Thank you notes, pencils, pens

Procedure:

Review the story of David, Achish, and the Amalekites, focusing on God making the victory happen. Explain that Moses having his arms in the air was a visual way of reminding them God was in charge and making their victory possible. Remembering God’s role can keep us humble – what does being humble mean? Giving credit to others – especially God.

Talk about things people take credit for that God and others helped them achieve. Ex. Playing the piano well required their parents buying a piano and paying for lessons and teachers teaching them how to play well, etc. Have them create thank you notes or surprises for the people they haven’t been thanking but should have.

Additional Questions: How can students show appreciation to people in the congregation?

Supplemental Activity: Have the students write thank you notes for people in the congregation who work humbly.
