Thanking Bible Teachers

Scripture: Luke 2:41-52

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn Jesus knew how important God is from a very young age.
  • Students will learn Jesus was very familiar with God’s Words by the age of twelve.
  • Students will learn Jesus understood the most important thing in life is to serve God.

Guiding Question: How can we show appreciation to those who have taken the time to teach us about God?

Materials: markers, pens, note cards, little token or home made gifts

Procedure: Review the story of Jesus at the Temple as a boy. Explain that Jesus knew how important it was to have a relationship with God at a young age and how important it was to serve Him. Explain that Jesus knew in order to service God, it was important to worship Him and become familiar with the Bible. Explain that there were teachers in the Temple teaching people who wanted to learn more about God, Jesus joined them and began teaching. Tell students that we have people who take the time and work hard to teach us about God. Have the students share people who have influenced them in their Christianity 

Introduce the service project. Have the students make thank you notes and gifts for the various people who have taught them about God. The people can be teachers from classes they have had in church, family, or mentors.

Additional Questions: How can you teach others about God?

Supplemental Activity: Have students create a picture book for younger children that teaches them something important about God. Have them read or give their finished book to someone younger.
