Scripture: Jonah
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn God expects us to obey Him.
- Students will learn God expects us to warn people of the consequences of disobeying Him.
- Students will learn God wants us to be happy when people turn away from their sin, even if we don’t like them.
- Students will learn about heat exhaustion and how to treat it.
Guiding Question: Why does God want us to lead a godly lifestyle?
Materials: Posters, paper, pencils, drawing utensils
Procedure: Review the story of Jonah from the scriptures above. Emphasize the part of the story where God sends a plant to protect Jonah from the heat.
Introduce the activity. Ask students if they have ever heard of heat exhaustion and why they think it might happen. After students share, elaborate on their answers by explaining heat exhaustion, heat stroke, symptoms, and how to treat heat exhaustion/stroke. Have students create mini posters about heat exhaustion or heat stroke and how to treat it properly.
Additional Questions: How can the students make others aware of heat safety?
Supplemental Activity: Have students create a skit about heat exhaustion/stroke and how to treat it. Have them present to younger students to teach them about heat safety.
