The Holy Spirit
Scripture: Acts 2:1-47
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn the Holy Spirit is God.
- Students will learn a basic understanding of the Trinity.
- Students will learn the Holy Spirit is meant to help Christians and is given to Christians when they are baptized.
- Students will learn the various functions of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Christians.
Guiding Question: Why do Christians need the Holy Spirit?
Materials: Puppets, puppet performer, adult
Procedure: The students will watch a puppet performance about the Holy Spirit. Allow the students time to ask questions at the end. Emphasize the importance of baptism in order to receive the Holy Spirit. Explain to the students how they Holy Spirit helps them hear God’s voice when making decisions or praying about something. It can help them decide what is right and what is wrong.
Additional Questions: How can students understand how the Holy Spirit guides us?
Supplemental Activity: Have a fan set up blowing next to a trash can. Have students line up an try to tosh a crumpled piece of paper into the trash. Change the direction and speed of the fan each time a students goes to toss the ball in. After all students have a turn, ask the students how they knew the wind was there, if they could see it, how they knew it was moving the paper, etc. Compare the wind to the Holy Spirit by explaining that like the wind, even though we can’t see the Holy Spirit, we know it is there to move us along in God’s direction and guide us to make important choices.
