Scripture: Matthew 28:2-15, Mark 16:1-14, Luke 24:1-44, John 20:2-21:24
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn God raised Jesus from the dead on Sunday.
- Students will learn many people saw Jesus after he was raised from the dead.
- Students will learn people touched Jesus and ate with him after he was raised, showing he was raised and not some sort of ghost or spirit.
- Students will practice telling the story of the Jesus to enhance how they share their faith.
Guiding Question: How does telling the story of the Jesus develop our faith sharing and encourage others to know God?
Materials: 10 large flat stones per student, permanent markers or paint pens
Procedure: Review the story of the Resurrection for the scriptures above. Review how Jesus helped others believe that He had been resurrected by talking with them, eating meals with them, etc. Explain that this was important so more and more people would go on to share the good news of Jesus. God wants us to also share the news of Jesus and how He has been faithful to us. Ask the students why it might be hard or scary to share their faith with others. Explain that the more practice they have sharing their faith, the easier it will become to do.
Give each student 10 flat stones and permanent markers or paint pens. Have the students make story stones of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. (This link has ideas for stones: https://rainydaymum.co.uk/easter-story-stones/) When the students are finished, have them practice sharing the story of Jesus with another students using the story stones to guide them.
Additional Questions: How can students encourage others in their faith by sharing times of God’s faithfulness?
Supplemental Activity: Have students pick a time in their life when God has been faithful to them. Have the students think about why that was important to them and how it could be helpful to share with someone else. The students can then practice sharing the story of Jesus, how God was faithful in raising Jesus from the dead, and then share their personal story of God’s faithfulness to them.
