# Greater Than

Scripture: Matthew 18:1-4, Mark 9:33-35, Luke 9:46-48 and 17:7-10

Learning Objectives:

• Students will learn God does not want us to seek to be the most powerful in His Kingdom.
• Students will learn it is our responsibility to obey and serve God.
• Students will learn even if we serve God faithfully, we should be humble and grateful for our blessings – especially salvation.
• Students will learn how to compare fractions and numbers with decimals.

Guiding Question: How can students compare fractions and decimals?

Materials: Cards with fractions and numbers with decimals written on them.

Procedure: Review the story of the Apostles Argue from the scriptures above. Emphasize the God is not concerned about being powerful. He is concerned about us trying to do the right and best thing for His Kingdom. Tell students that people who have power do not always care to do the right thing but God asks us to obey and serve Him first. Remind the students that serving God is about putting Him and others above ourselves. When we serve, we should be humble and always focused on God. When we serve, we should be humble and always focused on God. When serving, we should have an attitude and emotions that express happiness, kindness, and love.

Introduce the activity. Remind students that the apostles were arguing over who was greater than the others. Review with students the greater than and less than signs. Next, show the students large cards with various fractions and decimal numbers on them. Have one student draw a card and stand to the left, then the next student draws a card and stands to the right. The third student makes the appropriate greater than and less than signs with their arms. Continue until all cards are used or all students have had a turn.

Additional Questions: How can students compare numbers?

Supplemental Activity: Have students work in partners. The first partner will roll a dice 3 times and create a three digit number. The second partner will do the same. Students will compare numbers and the partner with the higher number gets a point. Repeat 20 times.
