Scripture: 2 Samuel 6-9 and I Chronicles 13-17
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn God expects us to obey His commands exactly as they are given. As Uzzah learned, disobeying God can result in consequences.
- Students will learn that just like God did not want David to build the Temple, but still blessed him, God may not allow us to do something we want to do for Him. It doesn’t mean God loves someone more than us or that He will not bless us.
- Students will learn that God expects us to keep our godly promises.
Interesting Facts:
- It would have been common in ancient times for David to have Mephibosheth killed to prevent him from trying to take the throne back for Saul’s family. The fact that David made him basically a part of his family shows his love for Jonathan and his determination to keep his promise to Jonathan.
- Although God did not allow David to build the Temple, David towards the end of his life did end up purchasing the land where the Temple was eventually built.
