Christian Volunteer Challenges #15

Summer is just around the corner. Your ministry may still be hybrid or virtual, but in person ministry will be back for everyone before too long. What things have you learned during this season? What do you want to change when in person ministry returns? Taking time to do some planning will make the transition smoother for everyone. In the meantime, here are this week’s social media challenges.

Monday: If you’ve ever really looked at a field of any crop, you will notice that each plant of the same crop is slightly different. Some grow better than others. Some produce more. A few wither or get eaten by pests. Each needed a little special attention to do it’s best, but they’re unlikely to receive it as part of a huge field. It’s easier just to give them all the same thing. We’ve ministered to kids and teens like they were a field of sunflowers. To truly build a strong spiritual foundation and reach his or her full godly potential, we need to find ways to differentiate and individualize ministry within the general framework. This is particularly important, because many children aren’t getting the help at home that they need. It begins by dealing viewing each young person as an individual and not just as an ambiguous part of a group.

Tuesday: This was someone’s invention for an early shower head. Ministry often requires creativity to be effective. You were created in God’s image, so you are creative. Your creativity may just have been stifled by others over the years. Or you may be stuck on a particular issue. Our website has tons of free resources to help. Still stuck? We’re here to help. Contact us on this page or through the contact feature on our website. We may be able to help you find the solution you need!

Wednesday: We may not run a country store with penny candy, but our website is overflowing with free resources to enhance your ministry. From lesson plans, to activity ideas to volunteer training resources and ebooks, you will find everything your ministry needs. If not, contact us and we may add your idea to our future resource list. Watch later this year for our newest ebook Ministering to Marginalized Children. www.teachonereachone.org

Thursday: Yes, those are people getting ready to swing over the edge of a skyscraper. Some of your students wouldn’t go anywhere near this attraction, while others would race to be first in line. Your Bible students may be risk adverse or risk seeking. Those who are risk seekers will be tempted to reject Christianity as too tame or boring. Helping them find godly adventures through service and missions can help them find the purpose and risk they seek, while also helping them avoid seeking risks that will endanger them. Be creative, but help them understand the Christian life is an adventure, too.

Friday: Facebook is preventing many of you from seeing our posts. Want to make sure you see our blog posts, weekly challenges and favorite links? Go to our website and sign up for our newsletter. You will receive a weekly email containing the content you’re missing on Facebook. What other places would you like to see our weekly content? www.teachonereachone.org

Our Favorite Link of the Week: We found a great secular article on using the chat feature when using virtual platforms. It has some great uses for Bible classes, too.
