Guiding Question: Why does God want us to stay away from pride?
Materials: Found in the Procedures section
Procedure: Review the story of Absalom from the scripture above. Ask students why pride could lead to negative consequences and how they should act instead of being prideful. Remind students that all their success comes from God and that pride takes away from God’s glory. Knowing that success comes from God and living a humble life leads us to make better choices and serve as a godly example to those around us.
Introduce the activity. Remind students about Absalom’s hair and have students share why they think people have different kinds of hair: texture, color, no hair at all, etc. Tell students it all has something to do with genetics. Explain that genetics determines what kind of traits you will have such as hair texture and color and eye color. Genes come from your parents with their traits and before you are born, these genes create with type of traits you will have.
