Hair Care

Scripture: Judges 13-15

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn God expects parents to prepare their children for serving Him.
  • Students will learn when we focus on what we want – like money and power – instead of what God wants for us, it often leads to sin and consequences.
  • Students will learn God expects us to practice self-control in how we live our lives.
  • Students will create hair care bags to give to urban ministries.

Guiding Question: Why does God want us to serve others?

Materials: Travel size hair care products

Procedure: Review the story of Samson’s early life focusing on how his mother dedicated him to be a Nazarite. Review some of the specific instructions that God gave Samson’s parents to raise him. Emphasize how parents should teach their children to know God. One part of knowing and serving God is by serving other people. Remind students that being a Christian is not just about making yourself a better person, but it being a Christian is about serving and helping others as well. Christians should show God to others in their words and actions.

Introduce the service project. Tell the students they are going to make hair kids for urban ministries summer camps. Explain that different people have different types of hair. There will be different bags made for different types of hair. Have the students create the bags with the products you choose. Students can go with you to drop off the bags if able to.

Additional Questions: How can others learn about hair and scalp hygiene?

Supplemental Activity: Have students create brochures about the importance of hair and scalp care, including tips and suggestions to keep your hair and scalp clean. These can be delivered to local ministries or shelters.
