Scripture: 2 Kings 5:8-14
Learning Objectives:
- Students will review the story of Elisha and Naaman.
- Students will learn that God gives us tools – the fruit of the spirit and armour of God to help us in everyday life.
- Students will learn we need tools to help us live the Christian life.
- Students will learn complete a pillow they can keep in their rooms that has the fruit of the spirit on one side and the armor of God on the other.
Guiding Question: How does God provide what we need in order to live a Christian life?
Materials: Pre-drawn fabric already sewn on three and ¾ sides, fabric markers, Polly fill, needles, thread, adult volunteers to help with sewing
Procedure: Show the students tools used to build a house. Explain to the students that just as a builder needs tools to build a strong building, we need tools to help us live a Christian life. God has given us a lot of tools. Two important ones are the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Ask the students if they have heard of these and can name some of them. Discuss with the students why having these tools are important and build the foundation of our faith so we can live a Godly life.
Fruits of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control
Armor of God: Truth, Righteousness, Readiness from gospel of peace (Gospel message), Faith, Salvation, Sword of Spirit (Bible)
Have the students color in pillow tops, which have already been drawn – one side is fruit of the spirit, the other side is the armor of God. After decorating, the students will stuff their pillows and give to an adult to sew the small opening closed. Make sure each student has their name written on the pillow.
Additional Questions: How do we use the fruits of the spirit and armor of God in our everyday life?
Supplemental Activity: Have students role play with other students at the front of the room how they can show the fruits of the spirit and armor of God.
