Scripture: Proverbs 5,7,12-15,17,19-23,27-29,31
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn we need to behave in certain godly ways to have the best relationships with our friends and family.
- Students will learn although Solomon did not make the best choices when it came to his friends and family (He had 700 wives and 300 concubines!), God gave him the wisdom to give important advice to others about friends and family.
- Students will learn God’s advice is as practical and helpful today as it was several thousand years ago during the time of Solomon.
- Students will participate in a service project that helps others learn more about the Proverbs.
Guiding Question: How can the Proverbs be better understood and help others learn more about God?
Materials: Props (will vary depending on how you choose to create the skit)
Procedure: Review the Proverbs from the scriptures above and what can be learned from those Proverbs. Explain that in order to maintain the best relationships with others possible, we can look to those Proverbs for advice. Ask the students when some times are that they may need advice and can look to the Proverbs for Godly advice.
Introduce the service project. Explain to the students that they are going to write and perform a skit using some of the Proverbs. Ask the students to think about what they would want others to know from the Proverbs and to write a skit that gets the lesson across. Explain that performing the Proverbs provides people another way to understand the Proverbs and learn more about God. Once the students have written and practiced the skit, have the students perform the skit at church or at a local shelter if allowed. (The creation/practicing of the skit may take several weeks)
Additional Questions: How can students share the Proverbs with those in their community?
Supplemental Activity: Have the skits of the Proverbs filmed and sent to family, friends, etc. Students can also create artwork showing one of the Proverbs and write the lesson to be learned at the bottom. This artwork can then be distributed to family, friends, local shelters, etc.
