Scripture: Exodus 11-12
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn God expects us to obey Him.
- Students will learn sometimes there are horrible earthly consequences for disobeying God.
- Students will learn obeying God can often protect us from earthly consequences.
- Students will review retelling stories in the Bible.
Guiding Question: Why is it important to celebrate God?
Materials: Beach ball
Procedure: Review the story of the First Passover from the scriptures above. Explain how those celebrating the passover had to obey God’s commands for the passover and that protected them. Passover became a holiday to remember and celebrate God delivering the people out of Egypt and taking them to the Promised Land. Celebrating God shows Him honor and love. When we worship Him and stay close to Him, we are likely to stay on a good path, obeying Him and not having negative consequences.
Introduce the activity. Tell students they are going to play a memory game. The person who is “It” starts telling any Bible story while holding a beach ball. After a couple of sentences, the person tosses the ball to another person who must add another sentence or two to the story. Encourage students to make sure the ball gets tossed to everyone and be prepared to help students who don’t know a lot of Bible.
Additional Questions: How can students retell the story of the First Passover?
Supplemental Activity: Assign students different sections of the story of the First Passover. Have the students create a prop that goes with their part. When everyone is finished, have the students retell the story in order and use their props for retelling when it gets to their part.
