Solids and Liquids

Scripture: Numbers 20

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn God expects our complete obedience to His commands.
  • Students will learn sometimes there are earthly consequences for our disobedience.
  • Students will learn God can forgive sins and still not take away the earthly consequences for our sins.
  • Students will learn how to change items from a solid to a liquid.

Guiding Question: How can items change from a solid to a liquid?

Materials: Ice, fruit

Procedure:  Review how God provided for the needs of the Israelites even in the desert. When Moses asked from God, God gave them water. Talk with students about consequences and how earthly consequences can occur when we disobey God. These consequences can affect ourselves and even those around us that we love. Even though God can forgive us of our sins, we can still have consequences for our actions.

Introduce the activity. Give the students various solids including ice and a fruit. Have them experiment with various ways to get a liquid from a solid. Do they notice any patterns?

Additional Questions: How can students determine the difference between a solid, a liquid, and a gas?

Supplemental Activity: Complete the following experiment with the students: https://lessons4littleones.com/2019/01/12/easy-fun-solid-liquid-gas-science-experiment-with-free-printable-page/
