Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn the importance of building a strong foundation for their faith.
  • Students will learn that a strong foundation is necessary to develop a strong relationship with God.
  • Students will complete a service project in which they build birdhouses to take to those living at assisted living homes.

Guiding Question: How does building items others would need and like make them feel special and show God’s care for them?

Materials:

Procedure: Review the story of the Wise and Foolish builders from the scripture above. Emphasize the importance building up our faith well so that we can have a closer relationship with Jesus and do what God wants us to do. Explain that when we are building up our faith and helping/serving others, we need to give our best and take time to build ourselves and others up well.

Introduce the service project. Explain that it is important to build up the things we want and need well. Tell the students that they are going to make birdhouses that will attach to a window to take to those living at an assisted living home. Remind them that these birdhouses are going to need to be built well in order for them to last, just like how we need to build up our faith well so that it stays strong and lasts.
